Unknown to the king, Sir
Blade is the illegitimate son of Queen Liaria. Sir Blade and the
wench are lovers and together they persuade the Queen to convince the
King to give the hand of his daughter, the maiden Heaven (of a
previous wife), in marriage to Sir Blade, which will give him a vast
dowry. Then the maiden would be killed so Blade and the wench can be
happy together in riches.
The Queen convinces the
King to allow the marriage, but the Wizard warns it may never happen
because the maiden Heaven is in love with Drew Nightshade, an outlaw.
So the King dispatches Blade to the wood to capture Nightshade,
which he does, and brings him back to the castle.
There, everyone meets for
the finale where poison is passed around in confusion, an escape
scene causes chaos, a person is murdered. Gypsy Fortunetell gives
final clues, tying the play together. All are suspects.
